Industry experts predict that for the year 2008, more people would be demanding for luxurious accommodations on cruise trips, simply because more people would be boarding the boats this year. Cruise liners are more than happy to oblige. Industry experts are basing their predictions on last year’s cruise trends where many old-named boats and new lines upgraded themselves to suit the needs of a more dynamic crowd. This raises the bar when it comes to competition among cruise liners.
This year, cruise liners are finding more creative ways as to attract the interest of the vacationing crowd. The Princess ships, for example will be hosting a film premiere of Bonneville on the 11th of February, 2008. The film stars Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates and Joan Allan. The movie will hit theaters on the 29th of the same month.
Nickelodeon, the children’s cable network will be offering its first ever family cruise trip on the Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. The cruise itinerary is strictly Western Caribbean and this is schedule for August.
By December, Celebrity Cruises hopes to launch Celebrity Solstice: where real grass would be growing on the top deck of the boats, and guests will be invited to enjoy the grass, play croquet or just enjoy a wine-and-cheese picnic.

Last year, several ships added sports-related features unto their decks like bowling alleys, ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls and mechanical waves for surfing. On December 2007, Cunard’s Queen Victoria became the first cruise line to offer private fencing lessons. Others have upgraded their technological hardware, offering Internet and e-mail access while at sea.
